Zaventem, June 2003 - Pentax Technologies Corporation announces delivery of over 760 Pentax PocketJet II printers to household goods manufacturer Miele in Gütersloh/Germany. Miele is equipping its technical service personnel with the Pentax PocketJet II, a high-quality ultra portable solution for thermal direct printing. Every Miele service technician carries a technical service case. The basic equipment consists of a laptop computer, a mobile scanner and a mobile printer. The cases are updated about every four years to bring them up to the latest technical standard. Last year a project team was set up, consisting of members from several different departments, with an objective to identify leading edge products that would provide a new and comprehensive technical solution. The key criteria was to keep the weight of the case to below 10 kg and to include a robust printer with small dimensions but high resolution. During the team's research of the printer market, their attention was immediately drawn to the PocketJet II by Pentax Technologies. It quickly became the main contender in the selection process, due to its 25.5 cm length and a weight of under 500 gr. including the battery pack. The project team promptly contacted the manufacturer Pentax Technologies via Axmax, the main importer of Pentax products in Germany, and its distributor and long-time Miele supplier, CMCS Bielefeld. Miele submitted an order that included a total of almost 800 IBM laptop computers and Pentax PocketJet IIs. The Miele team summarised their reason for choosing the PocketJet II, as follows: "Weight, follow-up costs, simple operation and easy maintenance were the deciding criteria for us. Apart from changing the thermal paper there is no further cost, because the replacement of ink cartridges, toner or ribbons, which is typical with other printers, is not necessary." The Pentax PocketJet II has been in use by Miele for eight months now. Service personnel can now print the wiring layout for the Miele equipment that needs to be repaired, on site and in black/white laser quality with 300 dpi resolution, regardless of weather or temperature considerations. After finishing the job, a service report can be printed and the customer immediately receives a printed invoice. The totally maintenance-free operation makes this mobile printer the best solution currently available on the market, according to the Miele project team.
