Law Enforcement Rides With Pentax PocketJet

 

Challenge:

Trouble printing citations and accident reports is the last thing a public safety officer needs when it takes long enough to gather all the required information in the first place. The Iowa Department of Transportation streamlines the reporting process with TraCS software and realized that a rugged and reliable portable printer is also a key player in efficient reporting.


Solution:

"Iowa developed the Traffic and Criminal Software (TraCS), a PC-based data collection tool for a mobile environment for officers to collect safety data at the roadside. For several years we have used the Pentax PocketJet printer, first the PocketJet 1, and more recently the PocketJet II. We found the small form factor, along with the capability to use either a role feeder or a single sheet feed, meets our needs for printing in a mobile environment. The printer has proven to be trouble-free and rugged enough to withstand use by officers in their patrol cars. We share the TraCS software with other states and several of the other TraCS states are also using the Pentax PocketJet printer."

TraCS is developed in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration.
