PocketJet I Frequently Asked Questions
Notice: The original Pentax PocketJet printer is an obsolete printer and no longer sold by Pentax.

My printer prints half the page and I have to reinsert the paper in order to get the whole page.

A. Are you printing a lot of graphics, borders, or PowerPoint-type formats? If so, you need to check which version of the PocketJet you have. If you have 512K memory, the buffer is filling up and will need to empty itself before receiving more info from the CPU. A 2MB upgrade is available through the Pentax Service Dept. Turn around time once received is 3-5 business days.

B. Try using the HP LaserJet Series II driver. In Win 95 go to the driver's "Properties" and then the "fonts" section. Select "Print True Type as Graphics." In Windows 3.xx select the printer driver. Then go to "options." Select the box below that says "Print True Type as Graphics." This may improve this situation a little, however, chances are a memory upgrade will be required.

What do I need to do in order to get my PocketJet (I) upgraded to Infrared?

Contact Pentax Technical Support or call 1-800-543-6144 x1820. You will be issued an RMA# (return material authorization number). Then send the unit in. The Service Administrator will contact you when the unit is ready to be upgraded and payment information will be then obtained. The maximum turn around time is two weeks.

What is modified to the PocketJet (I) when it is upgraded to Infrared?

The main board has to be modified. An IrDA adapter comes with the upgrade that gets attached to where you normally connect the interface cable. The IrDA adapter is an eight-inch long cable that has an IrDA dongle attached, which provides for more versatility and flexibility while printing.

I have Windows XP on my computer. What driver do I install for the original PocketJet on this operating system?

If printing with the original PocketJet, the HP LaserJet IIP or HP LaserJet Series IIP driver will need to be installed for Windows XP. This driver is the same for Win 3.1, 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000 and XP. This driver is already on your system, so just go to Start: Settings: Printers: Add Printer and select the manufacturer as HP and the printer as one of the two specified above.

Will the Original PocketJet printer work Windows XP using the USB Cable?

Yes, the Original PocketJet printer will print through the USB cable on Win XP.

Will the Original PocketJet printer work with IrDA through the new Pocket PC unit that TechMate is using?

Yes, the Original PocketJet printer will print through IrDA however this solution requires a patch to the printer to make it happen. Please contact TechMate at 1-800-837-6283 - Lauren at extension 215 is the main contact for this question. Pentax recommends the PocketJet 200 or PocketJet 3 for Pocket PC with TechMate.

My printer seems to be printing the entire page lightly.

Check the brightness dial on the left side of the printer. Normal setting should be around 7. If you are still not sure this is correct, do a printer test page and compare. Font type and size can also change a page's appearance in regards to brightness.
