Mac TWAIN driver support - The TWAIN driver for Mac defines communication and data structures between software applications on the Mac and the DSmobile 600 scanner. The driver allows the DSmobile 600 to scan from any TWAIN compliant scanning program on your Mac.

Supported Operating Systems - The driver supports MAC OS X 10.3 or higher, and supports USB (Universal Serial Bus) 2.0 (High Speed) for best performance. It is also compatible with USB 1.1 (at a slower speed).

Note: The DSmobile 600 TWAIN driver for Mac is not included on the installation CD that comes with the product. It is only available for download here. There is no Mac scanning software application included on the CD or for download at this site. You must have your own Mac scanning software. TWAIN-enabled applications software, like Adobe Photoshop and Word Mac, will recognize the scanner and allow you to import scanned images with your Mac.

Note: When using the DSmobile 600 on a Mac, the scan button located on top of the scanner does not function or bring up a list of your scanning applications.

Installing DSmobile 600 Driver on Macintosh Systems

1. Make sure your Macintosh system software is OS X 10.3 or higher and that your application software works native and not in emulation of lower system software versions.
2. Do not connect the DSmobile 600 scanner to the Macintosh until after the software installation.
3. Download the DSmobile 600 TWAIN driver to your Mac or copy it to CD.
4. Open the DSmobile 600 Mac TWAIN.dmg file.
5. Double click on the DSmobile 600 driver icon.
6. Click on Continue.
7. Select the disk for the installation or click Continue.
8. Click Install.  Close other operating software, and then click Continue Installation.
9. When the installation is complete, click Restart.
10. Connect the DSmobile 600 scanner to a Macintosh USB port.
11. Start your TWAIN-compliant application software.
12. Under Import, select DSmobile 600.
13. Follow the on-screen instructions for calibration and scanning.  See the DSmobile User’s Guide for information on setting scanning parameters.
14. Note: When using the DSmobile 600 on a Mac, the scan button located on top of the scanner does not function or bring up a list of your scanning applications like it will for a PC.
    
    

Some examples of how the DSmobile 600 will interact with MAC software applications:

The DSmobile 600 scanner should work as an input device with any TWAIN-enabled software on the Macintosh.  TWAIN is a standardized interface between scanners and application software that is built into most graphical application software.  Below are two examples of the use of the scanner with MAC applications software that have TWAIN built in.  You will have to download the DSmobile 600 driver software from the Pentax web site and then check your own software suite to see if the DS600 scanner works with your specific application.

Using Adobe Photoshop CS2

1. Download and install the DSmobile 600 MAC driver.
2. Open Photoshop.
3. Select File:Import:DSmobile 600.
4. Set scanning parameters (scan size, resolution, color, etc.).
5. Click on Scan.
6. Under File, select Save and select .tif or other file format.

Using Microsoft Word: Mac

1. Download and install the DSmobile 600 MAC driver.
2. Select a new Word document.
3. Select Insert:Picture:From Scanner or Camera.
4. Select DSmobile 600.
5. Select Acquire.
6. Set scanning parameters (scan size, resolution, color, etc.).
7. Select Insert Document, click OK.
8. Under File, select Save and select .doc or other file format.

Calibrating your DSmobile 600 Scanner using “Image Capture”
Calibration is a critical step in setting up your scanner. It allows the scanned color data to be “calibrated” to your computer and scanner combination for best image quality. If at any time you switch the computer that you use with your scanner or change scanners, you will need to calibrate again.
