NOTE: CD 3.2 is a BETA Driver CD, released on September 16, 2005. Since some quantity of these 3.2 CD’s had been created and changes were made afterwards, Pentax decided to release the CD for production at version 3.3.
CD 3.3 was released on October 5, 2005.
1. New Bluetooth Printer Models
PocketJet 3 and PocketJet 3Plus printers now can be purchased with built-in Bluetooth support.
These new printers are called “PocketJet 3 with Bluetooth” and “PocketJet 3Plus with Bluetooth”.
Note that the PocketJet 3/3Plus Bluetooth models are available as printer options at the time of purchase. These stand-alone products are not available as an upgrade option on the PocketJet 3 or 3Plus printer models.
The Bluetooth profile that these products support is SPP (Serial Port Profile).
2. Windows Drivers for Bluetooth Printer Models
This CD contains Windows 2000/XP and Windows 9x/Me drivers that are specific for the PocketJet 3/3Plus Bluetooth printer models. The drivers are not interchangeable with the PocketJet 3 and PocketJet 3 Plus printer models for the following reasons:
· The Auto Install programs have been modified to support Bluetooth
· The Installation INF files have been modified to support the new USB Plug and Play Device ID’s
· The Windows 2000/XP digital signature files are NOT included
Note that the actual DRIVERS for these printers are identical to the digitally signed Windows 2000/XP drivers and the non-digitally signed Windows 9x/Me drivers used with the non-Bluetooth models.
Due to the changes to the INF file, and also because the Bluetooth printers do not support the HCRP (Hard Copy Cable Replacement) profile, the Windows 2000/XP drivers for the Bluetooth printers are not eligible to receive or use the Microsoft digital signature.
3. Updated Configuration Utilities
The PocketJet 3/3Plus Configuration programs have been updated to support Bluetooth printer models, and they provide several other bug fixes and feature enhancements (some of which have been disabled or hidden) for all the PocketJet 3/3Plus printer models.
Font and Firmware Upload are disabled features that are controlled by Pentax. Your request to enable Font and Firmware Upload must be made to Pentax Technical Support for review and approval.
The configuration utility must be used to set the Bluetooth PIN code.
NOTE: The PIN code is normally DISABLED inside the printer until it has been set using the Configuration Utility. This means that the printer does not require using a PIN code. However, some Operating Systems (for example, WinXP SP2) require use of a PIN code, even though they indicate that you can use the printer without one. If your OS requires a PIN code but you have not yet set a PIN code with the Configuration program, you may use the default PIN code of “default”. The printer will allow pairing to this PIN code even when the PIN code is disabled. Once you change the printer’s PIN code using the Configuration program, this new PIN code must be used for “pairing” in order to print.
4. Updated OSX Driver
The OSX driver has been updated to include support for the Bluetooth printer models. It also has added some minor changes needed to support the new “Tiger” version of OSX.
5. Updated “Windows Mobile” (PocketPC) Applets
This CD contains the latest available printing applications from Field Software. Nothing special was needed to add support for the Bluetooth printer models, since Field Software already supported the SPP profile for Bluetooth printing. These applets support all PocketJet printer models.
6. Updated Windows CE Drivers
The PocketJet 3/3Plus/II/200 WinCE drivers have been updated to support WinCE.NET 5.0 devices. Also, the USB Printer Class driver (PJUSBPRN.DLL) has been modified to provide better support for certain CE.NET 4.x and 5.x devices with faulty USB Host Controller drivers. The PocketJet 3/3Plus drivers can be used with both Bluetooth and non-Bluetooth printer models.
7. PocketJet II and 200 drivers
Other than the WinCE.NET drivers, nothing else has changed for these printers.
8. Other Drivers for PocketJet 3/3Plus with Bluetooth
All the other drivers supplied on the CD for the Bluetooth models are identical to the drivers supplied for the non-Bluetooth printers. The drivers are compatible with both versions of these printers.
CD 3.3 Changes
1. Win2K/XP and Win9x/Me Auto Install programs for PocketJet 3/3Plus with Bluetooth were modified to add a website link to assist users with the process of establishing the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP) connection. Also, a bug was fixed related to the behavior with the main CD front-end program.
2. PalmOS software from StevensCreek was updated to include the latest version, for all printer models.
3. The Linux CUPS solution for all printer models was modified to allow a more standard Linux installation process. That is, the “make install” step was modified so that users do not have to manually install some files. Also, the new version includes a utility program intended for use with the PocketJet 3/3Plus (with and without Bluetooth) to allow modifying some of the printer “power on default settings”, including especially the Bluetooth PIN code, similar to the Windows-based Configuration utility.
4. Most other changes were related to Documentation files (i.e. README.TXT, README.CHM).
5. RIM BlackBerry printing support was added with a limited-use “trial” version of “Content Beamer Local” from ThinPrint. "Content Beamer Local" lets you print TEXT entries saved on your RIM BlackBerry in the Messages, Address Book, Calendar, Tasks, and Memo Pad directories. The print job is sent via Bluetooth directly to a local Bluetooth capable printer. The document is printed in pure text format; basic page formatting can be preset. Use of the client is free for 3 printouts only. For further use, the client application program must be purchased from ThinPrint.
