Accessing PocketJet 200 Custom Features in Windows CE

1.    Custom features can be accessed in two ways:

a)    responding to the "print-time" dialog that shows up for every print job

b)    using the "PocketJet 200" Control Panel applet that is accessed via "Start:Settings:Control Panel" and then double-tapping the "PocketJet 200" icon.

On each (a and b), the default choice of "Show this dialog at print time" will be enabled. At print time, this dialog will come up after the PocketJet 200 print driver has been selected from the main print dialog and OK has been selected. If the "Show this dialog at print time" box is “unchecked”, then the same settings last used will be used for all future print jobs. Use the Control panel to change settings or to re-enable showing the dialog at print-time.

1.    The WinCE driver has some other controls not used by the other drivers.

a)    Halftoning

·      Options are “Mixed Text and Graphics” and “Text Only”

·      The “Text Only” mode provides a slight performance increase when printing only text data. But, it will not look good when printing graphics.

·      “Mixed Text and Graphics” can be used in all cases of text or graphics

b)    Serial Handshaking

·      Choices are Hardware or Software

·      This ONLY applies to the SERIAL port. It is N/A for use with Irda or USB.

·      “Trial and Error” is unfortunately required. Please visit our website at www.pentaxtech.com or contact Pentax Tech support at 1-800-543-6144 ext 1820 for information that might be available about your particular device.

·      We recommend first trying Hardware handshaking, as it is generally more reliable. However, some WinCE hardware does NOT support this mode.

c)    Port Buffer Size

·      This control allows the user to select the amount of data that is sent to the port, for ALL port types.

·      The default value is 128 with settings as low as 1 or as high as 1024 bytes.

·      Depending on the cable and CE device, it may be necessary or desirable to lower or raise this value to increase reliability or to increase print speed.

·      Pentax recommends a setting of 1024 for the Pentax USB cable.

·      Pentax recommends a setting of 128 or higher when using a Pentax Irda cable. Note: Setting buffer size to 1024 will yield the fastest print speed.

·      When using a Pentax Serial cable, the value should be determined by trial and error. If the device supports Hardware handshaking (see discussion on Serial Handshake control above under b), Pentax has found that 1024 is sufficient. Smaller values are recommended if software handshake is required. Typically, in cases where software handshake is required, Pentax has found the value 16 to be a reliable value that does not decrease performance.

d)    Perforated Roll Paper

·      If selected, this control reduces the printable area of the selected paper size to be consistent with Perforated Roll Paper usage.
